I began taking photographs with a DSLR in 2013 and took part of a BTEC course with a local college before relocating to South Yorkshire in 2014 for health reasons. I have some previous experience of distance learning with the Open University studying Modern Languages. The aspects of the Modern Languages degree I found most interesting were those which addressed the construction and analysis of effective communication, though ultimately I felt the need to change the medium through which I looked at and studied the communication of ideas and experience.

I became a student of the Open College of the Arts in January 2016 and worked through the module Expressing Your Vision. I completed my fifth assignment just before Christmas and am finalising some of my learning log for external assessment in July.

My photographic interests are cross genre though often restricted by health. I visit my local RSPB reserve occasionally, as wildlife photography is something I find a restorative leisure pursuit and the reserve is accessible to all. I have an interest in landscape, though generally smaller local landscape, and portraiture and have worked at improving my skills shooting self portraits in my home.

I am keen to continue improve my technical photographic skills and my ability to communicate through imagery. Having made my initial read through of the Context and Narrative course materials I would hope that I can take the work I have completed during Expressing Your Vision as a foundation to develop further.
